Coaching questions for Performance Management Reviews

1. Do not start with open questions like ‘How do you feel the lesson went?’ or ‘What do you think were the most successful elements of the lesson?’ Try not to start a question with ‘Why did you…..?’ ‘Why didn’t you…..?’ Why don’t you…..?’ 2. Start questions with open words like: ‘What effect did….?’ ‘How did you….?’ ‘How could you?’ ‘What was the purpose of…?’ ‘What else could you do to….?’ Clarify for me what…?’ ‘Can you explain to me what…?’ 3. Ask questions that focus on learning:

What did XXX (child's name) achieve in the lesson? What factors supported this group best? What else can you do to support and extend this group?
